General Curriculum - One and Two Year Old Classes

Temple Beth Or Preschool provides a warm, loving environment to help one- and two-year-old children gently transition to what is often their first extended experience away from home.

Through teachers’ modeling and interactions, they learn to:

v Trust caring adults

v Manage their feelings and respond to the feelings of others

v Express themselves and participate in conversations

v Play with other children and begin to become part of a group

Beyond
social skill development, children:
v Manipulate objects to develop fine and gross motor skills, setting the stage for

    drawing and writing
v  Learn problem solving, cause and effect, and grouping

The students begin to explore the world around them by engaging in pretend play and

by spending time in activity centers devoted to tactile sensations such as water or

sand, building with blocks and listening to music.

The students are also read to every day in order to spark their awareness of pictures,

printed words and books, and to foster a love of stories.
